Dubai interior designer Nikki Bisiker opens up on pieces that capture her personal tastes

Nikki’s go-to colour is blue

Nikki Bisiker established her own practice in 2004 in Dubai after living and working in Europe.

Her team provides interior design and architectural services, from conception to installation, for clients based in the Middle East and around the world

Her ethos is to create homes and workspaces that are not formula or ego driven, but uniquely creative yet habitable style statements.

Currently working on projects in Central London and Dubai, she has also recently launched a trilogy of rugs in combination with Riviere Rugs, which joins her long-standing furniture line, ‘Twenty Nine.’

Nikki says: “The five pieces selected are those which capture my attention and enscapulates my thirst for design. I believe they also open up a window to my personal taste, love for colour, shapes and different techniques to produce that conversation piece. To pursue the dreams of summer they are also based around the colour blue, which is my go to colour, reflects the sky and sea; two wide open spaces that brings peace and serenity.”

Blue Mareluna Lamp by Elisabetta Cialli

Made in Majolica ceramic, the lamp is handcrafted on a traditional lathe before being cut into five pieces. Inside the sphere, the artisan created an incised design and coated it with gold in the third firing to create a smooth look. Topped with curled pieces of clay, the lamp can be personalized in different colors and sizes.

This is so unique, you have to look not just once, but view in detail all the beautiful curves and hidden detailing.

Calia Bronze Draped Chair by Kelly Wearstler

This dramatic Calia Bronze Draped Chair, executed in solid bronze, effortlessly straddles the line between furniture and sculpture. The form is that of a simple dining chair draped in heavy fabric with a decorative braided trim. When cast in bronze and polished to a high sheen that form takes on an ethereal and otherworldly quality. Time just enhances this materials.

I like this piece for its beguiling fluid forms and how it acts as a gleaming sculptural piece of artwork

Anemona Table for the Atelier Biagetti Objets Nomades collection

The Italian artist-designer duo pays homage to the Adriatic Sea. Under the bevelled glass top, the sculptural, wave-like base is lined with sumptuous Louis Vuitton leather. Large enough to seat 12, the table is a natural centerpiece, a magnet for conversation and conviviality.

The Origins of Never artwork by Wang Ziling

Wang Ziling creates astonishing sculptural paintings in which she explores our perception of external surroundings by reforming the structure of how we see and perceive things.

While delving into the relationship between colours and their abstract manifestations, her works attempt to break with convention and explores a new a sense of freedom and generates unrestrained abstract forms that cannot be confined to the limits of traditional frames.

The reason why it attracted me is that it takes the imagination to distant foreign lands of mountains, clouds and oceans.

Fish Labyrinth velvet screen

Inspired by the atmosphere and colour palette of the marine life, this screen will find its perfect place in refined décors dominated by neutral colours.

The hinged panels of soft silk velvet are dyed with blue, azure, and green pigments and painted by hand with coloured pastes enriched with gold leaf to mimic the glittering sunlight reflected on the sea.

This superb piece is entirely crafted and painted by hand, using techniques of the Venetian tapestry. The reason this piece had to make my list, is that it is a perfect representation of a traditionally iconic piece, re-invented using contemporary colours and patterns.
